Learn More About Water

Waterfall Water is the most common substance on earth, covering 75% of the earth’s surface. Despite its abundance, only a fraction of the water on this planet is available for our household or agricultural use. Of the 0.52% of water that is fresh, 96% is ground water and only 4% surface water. The average person in the US uses 2-4 times more water than the average person in Europe. Thirty-five states now pump their underground water supply faster than it refills. Annually, Americans use more than 467.34 cubic kilometers of water. Per capita, this amounts to 1839 cubic meters of water used for residential, industrial and agricultural uses. Residential water usage is typically measured in cubic feet, and there are 7.481 gallons of water in one cubic foot.
